The following is a brief description of the pregnancy content in His Empress that some readers may find triggering. These descriptions contain spoilers.
At her anatomy scan, Sienna is told there could be something wrong with her baby’s heart and she is referred to Maternal Fetal Medicine for a follow up. (The fetal echocardiogram is negative and baby’s heart is fine).
Sienna has an unplanned home birth that she is partially alone for. Her labor involves precipitous labor (labor lasting less than 3 hours) and fetal ejection reflex (strong contractions that expel the baby without conscious pushing by the mother). Sienna’s baby is a tiny bit early but does not require a NICU stay. Sienna and her baby are both healthy after delivery.
